I bought this to help offset the numbness after being on a bike seat for a few hours. The first time I wore it, my bike trip was about 4.5 hours long and I was walking around fine afterwards. Slightly sore, but much better than wearing regular shorts on a stock bike seat. They look like a regular pair of shorts and can also be worn if you're a hiker or active in general or just want to use them as an extra pair of shorts. The padding inside lining can be easily taken out and put back in.I thought the extra padding would help with adding an extra seat cushion when on the seat and it didn't, which was a surprise and slightly disappointing. Still, being able to walk around comfortably after a ride and not feel any numbness/tingling goes a long way. I'd recommend it.I'm 6' 1" and about 185 lbs. Bought the large size and it fits like a charm. About the velcro closure - the shorts do include a belt which has a snap buckle but instead of using a button or snap to close the shorts around the waist, the company went with velcro.
