I purchase two pair of these as the initial setup for the kit I would train in and use for my first tri. I'm glad I got the extra pair because after 500+ miles of riding in one month and a few runs through the wash (gentle cycle, cold water, hang dry) they're already shot. The fabric is a woven synthetic mesh and very thin. Doesn't hold up to friction very well. The fabric around the seams in the groin show signs of fraying after one month of use (three rides a week of 20-80 miles plus a century and the tri). Tied a jacket around my waist during a dry spell on one rainy ride and a velcro patch wore a hole through the shorts in one session. Be careful what you sit on - better be a smooth surface (i.e. the bike saddle) if you plan to have the seat of the shorts last - anything else (like concrete or rough wood) will shred the fabric if you twist around once or twice (not an exaggeration). I would recommend using these only for races if you want to look cool. Otherwise a very comfortable short. The chamois works pretty well (add a cream as its not a full sized chamois - its definitely a 'tri' chamois for short rides but if you have time to 'break in' your backside they work. No saddle sores even after doing a 6 hour century in these). I'm 5'11" 193 lbs 30 inch waist and have the mediums. They fit perfectly. Use a lighter every so often on the 'nylon frays' that most assuredly appear with use - doesn't seem to have an adverse affect on the rest of the short and definitely looks better than a pair of shredded nylon shorts. The area holds up well to the lighter trick even after a wash or five.I wore these to an XTerra offroad triathlon a few days after they arrived from Amazon. They fit as expected and were comfortable for the duration of the race. They look good, too. I've read several reviews that say that the fabric is see-thru. That has not been my experience. My guess is that the people who wrote those reviews were wearing shorts too small for them and the fabric was stretched too thin. Just a hunch. As for the padding, they have padding consistent with that of tri shorts (which they are)...not cycling shorts (which they are not). All in all, a good purchase.I really like the Pear Izumi Pro Intercool Tri Shorts, They are true to size and feel great the fabric is very comfortable, It is thin but never had the issue of being sheer or see through that was mentioned by a review below.. You have to treat the fabric the same as you would treat any other soft fabric, You can't sit on concrete or rough surface which most already know this with any soft fabric. Yes i would buy this item again.O.M.G. My wife said she could see my nether regions through it. The material is Sooooooooooooo thin. And then there is the cushion - WHAT CUSHION? Yes, there I said it. Wow, for a name like Peral Izumi - I thought I would get this great riding shorts with ample padding to boot. Nope. Nothing of the sort.Do yourself a favor - go to your local body shop and put your hands on the padding yourself and feel the difference between what they carry and BUY IT THERE. I thought I would save money - yup - I saved money alright - in the bee-hind that is. Ouch on the those rides longer than 30 minutes. And I have a thick padded seat too. what gives?Real cool material and super comfortable. Only draw back is I don't think the material will last long. Super Thin.I bought the exact same size I had bought a couple years ago. I weigh the same as I did then. But these shirts were super tight like compression shorts tight. Also the fabric looked stretched out and almost sheer. I've read that complaint on other posts too. I love the old ones but I returned these for a medium. Those felt too big for me and the fabric was still rather sheer. I am normally quite daisies with Pearl Izumi but I ultimately returned these for a different brand. I wishes a could still find the ones I got two years ago.Very comfortable. No chaffing encountered even on long runs.Just used these in an Olympic distance triathlon. Love them. Great fit, very conformable.
